Originating from around 1550, The Great House is a grade II* listed building and is believed to have been a gift from Queen Elizabeth 1 to the Earl of Leicester and used as a hunting lodge by him. More modern day Royal connections are via His Royal Highness Charles, Prince of Wales who has visited when travelling throughout Wales. Each season has a unique place here. Spring breathes new life into the walled garden. Summer days invite you to take drinks on the patio before dinner and as Autumn turns to Winter, you are enticed to share cocktails in front of open fires. Every detail is personally supervised by the owners. There is a well-stocked library 'for those quiet moments' and croquet lessons are optional!
The combination of exceptional comfort and fine cuisine makes Leicester's Restaurant at The Great House very special. The restaurant has twice been awarded 'Country Restaurant of the Year' & holds 2 AA Rosettes. This confirms the high standards of cooking and service. The freshest local Welsh produce is used and the food reflects a modern approach to classical cooking. Many of the dishes use local organic ingredients. Some fish is caught in nearby Porthcawl. We are very well placed for any of the 10 golf courses nearby including the championship courses at The Royal Porthcawl and Pyle and Kenfig. Margam Abbey & Country Park is 5 mins away. St Fagans Welsh Folk Museum in Cardiff is just 20 mins east, whilst Swansea is just 30 mins to the west. We are able to arrange outdoor pursuits. Corporate team building activities, paint-balling, clay pigeon shooting, quad bikes and 4x4 driving. Organised weekends for small groups are just a few of the activities available. earby Porthcawl.
