Bryn Elltyd is a unique 1883, ECO six bed B&B that prides itself on being extremely environmentally friendly. Located rurally at a lakeside at the bottom of the Moelwyn mountains. We offer homely, quality 3 Star accommodation with very little carbon footprint. The Guardian quote "one of the greenest guesthouses in Europe", and we are proud winners of the Green Dragon ECO award. All electric is 100% green, some rooms are sheep wool insulated. We have turf roofs with wild flowers, water heating by solar panels, log burners or green electricity, a pond that is home to native brown trout, and some loos are flushed by harvested rain water. Guests will be welcomed by a hospitality tray of Fairtrade tea /coffee/ chocolate. Additionally, breakfasts include local bacon,veg, eggs. In season we have our own fruit, veg and duck eggs Ceilia and John are both qualified teachers and mountain leaders and have a grown up disabled daughter. With notice, John is available for canoe/kayak/ mountaineering/disabled guiding/heritage/nature/mountain bike & walking drop offs etc. We have been coming here for 20 years plus. Open access to the mountains and gated private mountain roads (used by TOP GEAR for hillclimbs) walks by the lake. Take part in outdoor activities such as lake fishing, rambling, caving, mountaineering, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing or hiring a bicycle. Chill with nature within 3k are mountains, oak and pine forest, meadow land and uniquely Victorian slate tramways to access the mountains. Within 400 metres, guests can access the steam train which has a 13 mile route to the coast. Stroll along uncrowded "Cornwall type beaches/bays". 2k away from there is a massive beach you can drive on. Nearby there are caves, mines castles and historic sites to explore. This is the ideal destination for a holiday in the heart of the stunning Welsh countryside. There are six guest rooms in total, all of which are en-suite. Each room is equipped with a wardrobe, easy chair, CD clock radio, hospitality tray, hairdryer and small halogen heater. Each room has a lovely view of either the lake or the gardens and mountains. There are a variety of room sizes including single, twin, double and super king size. Some rooms are suitable for disabled guests. The owners of Bryn Elltyd have a disabled daughter and therefore have knowledge of disability and details of suitable activities. All staff have had disability training and some are sign language qualified. Well behaved dogs are welcome. Wireless Internet Connection is available in some rooms. Bryn Elltyd is the holder of a Green Dragon Energy Award and has also been listed as one of 8 ECO guest houses in the Guardian.

Rooms Description

Our rooms date from 1883 to 2001. The last two are detached, sheep wool lined with turf roofs with wild flowers. Some have solar panels. Some collect rainwater for loo flushing and veg plot irrigation. All our rooms have en-suite, awarded 3 stars and with stunning views. We have room to breathe. Two conservatories, two dining rooms, two free view TV rooms(depending on Disabled guest allocation), sauna /drying room, two log burners, duck pond with ducks, mountain stream, acre of garden...veg plot..mountainside with 5 carefully chosen bench spots. PLUS two level crossing and a station that the steam train toot at within 300m.

OUR special local knowledge is key to your enjoyment. Wheelchair users, the less energetic rambler, ramble down the railway line ramblers, rockhounds, cavers, fishermen, twitchers, heritage lovers, canoeists, mountain bikers, big mountaineers, beech lovers, nature lover and just tourist. We like to think we can help them get the most from their break. Our greatest advantage is the variety of landscapes, not just mountains you spend all day climbing and descending. This is all enhanced by the Victorian miners tramways.

Directions

ROAD \ BIKE: We are 1.5 miles south and downhill of Blaenau Ffestiniog off the A470. From the Blaenau Ffestiniog island ( the only island for 10m!) go downhill towards Porthmadog for 1.2m. Turn off right then immediately left at brown signs to Bryn Elltyd /Ffestiniog Hydo power station. 400m you find the lake we are on the corner. TRAINS: Change at LLANDUDNO JUNCTION and go to BLAENAU FFESTINIOG. House is 2 miles downhill, south. I can pick you up or try the Steam train to the door (check Ffestioniog railway timetables). The sat nav sometimes put folk in the village of Tanygrisiau. Only 500m away but you cannot see the 3k long lake. Go back 400m to main road. Stop and look at the sign for B and B / power station/train station there. It is this junction where you turn in 10metres and follow the road /signs/ white railings. for 500 m to Bryn Elltyd on the corner of the lake.Phone 01766 831356
