The rear of the barn with delightful surroundings.Self-catering accommodation in a converted stone barn. comprising two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, living room, kitchen and hallway, all with central heating. A private patio and garden, with ample parking, is set in 100 acres of well-maintained, traditional farm pastureland in the heart of Monmouthshire. Becher's Cottage is primarily for those seeking peace and quiet and offers the chance to enjoy the surrounding countryside on foot, by bicycle, and on horseback, and to go fishing, and to explore the area. It is 6 miles from Monmouth and about 9 miles from Abergavenny and both these historic market towns are full of interesting things to do and see in pleasant, friendly surroundings.
The cottage is in one of the quietest parts of the UK, amid rolling Welsh countryside close to the English border. It is approached down a narrow lane, and is found on a typical family farm of small fields bounded by ancient hedgerows and tall oak trees. There are streams and woodlands and far-reaching views. Visitors are welcome to walk around the farm and talk to the horses and enjoy the wonderful views all around. Local footpaths provide more exacting walks nearby. Inside, there are exposed oak beams and lintels and the old pine purlins can be seen in the bedrooms and bathrooms.
The cottage is on two floors with one double and one twin bedroom, both with en-suite bathrooms. Downstairs, there is a large open-plan living room and fully-fitted kitchen with dining table, and a spacious hallway. It is non-smoking throughout. Heating and electricity, linen and towels are all included. Changeover day for holiday weeks is Saturday but we can be flexible. Short breaks of 2,3 or 4 nights are sometimes available in low season. Children are welcome and dogs can be brought by prior arrangement with the owners (sorry no other pets).
Local activities include horse-riding on the adjacent farm, fishing and golf, and horseracing at Chepstow and Hereford. For walkers, there is the 18 miles Three Castles Walk that passes close by and, a little further away, Offa's Dyke Path. Cheltenham Racecourse is only 1 hour away by car and racegoers can book Becher's Cottage for the Open Meeting in November or for the Festival Meeting in March. The Royal Forest of Dean provides many opportunities for adventure and sight-seeing.
