Upper Red House B&B - Cardiff & South Wales

Upper Red House is a Grade II listed farmhouse offering B&B accommodation in the Monmouthshire countryside. Ideal for walkers, next to Offa's Dyke. Pets welcome

Upper Red House B&B is at the end of a small lane, surrounded by its own organic farm in a lovely peaceful corner of Monmouthshire. The farmhouse is a Grade II* Listed building and is has changed little since it was built in the mid-17th century. Original features still include flagstone floors, oak beams, vaulted cellars, large fireplace and bread-oven. Offering peace and quiet, comfortable rooms and delicious home cooked food, the B&B is ideal for a relaxing break or for walkers using the Offa's Dyke Path. Near the house are ponds, streams, orchards, pasture and woods. A variety of nearby pubs and restaurants do evening meals. Packed lunches can be made if ordered when booking. Well behaved children over 10 are welcome; and so are well-behaved pets, but downstairs only.

Upper Red House B&B has the feel and look of a 17th century house, combined with essential modern comforts. The atmosphere is restful and the decor unobtrusive, using natural materials: no synthetic smells or blue loos! Water comes from our ancient spring. The ethos here is green - organic, low energy use, recycling, conservation of buildings and wildlife. The house is close to all the sights and walks of Monmouthshire, the Black Mountains the Wye Valley and the Brecon Beacons, as well as cathedrals, abbeys and castles of south Wales and the Borders. Closer to home, take a guided walk round the farm to hear about organic farming and see all the (award winning) wildlife conservation work done over the last 12 years.

Rooms Description

Upper Red House B&B has a choice of 4 rooms. One large double room is on the first floor, next to a bathroom; and up a steep flight of stairs are a second large double and 2 singles (one tiny). These are all under the roof, with sloping ceilings and the best views. Double rooms have big double beds. All rooms have oak beams, comfortable beds, lovely views, fresh flowers, a kettle and plenty of books. There is wireless internet, but sorry, this is a TV-free house. At present there are 2 shared bathrooms. Breakfast is generous, organic and vegetarian, with home made marmalade and jams and fruit from the orchard, usually eaten in the kitchen or outside in the garden if fine.
