Dominated by the grandeur of the Snowdon Massif, Llanberis is flanked by two lakes, Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris. Circle Lake Padarn in a vintage steam train, taking in a 13th century Welsh Castle and the beauty of the local area. Visit Caernarfon Castle, a well preserved medieval fort long associated with the Princes of Wales and made famous by Prince Charles. Segontium Roman Fort is less complete but was a pivotal location for the Romans in North West Wales. Built in AD77 and garrisoned as late as AD394, this fort was perfectly placed for military control. Llanberis itself is something of a mecca for walkers and climbers, being the starting point for the ascent of Snowdon - the highest mountain in England and Wales.
