Cardiff Bed, Breakfast: Wales B&B
Wales B&B - or as it is more formally known - Bed and Breakfast accommodation choice, couldn't be better, ranging from seaside bed and breakfast accommodation in Rhyl, Prestatyn, Porthcawl, Tenby to Aberystwyth B&Bs and beautifully set farmhouse B&Bs in Carmarthenshire, Mid Wales and North Wales. You'll also find an excellent selection of luxury quality B&Bs around both Swansea and Cardiff centres - with Cardiff B&Bs particularly popular - and further out from Swansea at the Mumbles.
Many key historic sites in Wales have friendly B&B accommodation within easy reach, for example in Caernarfon and around Beaumaris. There are also many tenby bed and breakfast guest houses, with more to be found around the national parks of the Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia. If you did want to make a slight distinction between guest houses and B&Bs, the former tends to be a converted house, but guest houses still usually operate under a Bed and Breakfast format.
Iknow-Wales is a comprehensive online directory of accommodation with specific sections for Bed & Breakfasts and Guest House accommodation (often shortened to B and B, B&B, BnB or even BB). Pictures to the left are linked to take you through to Bed and Breakfast listings in different regions of Wales such as Anglesey B&Bs or Gower Bed, Breakfast accommodation. Alternatively you can start your search by using the main Wales accommodation navigation above.

For B&B Snowdonia is a popular choice, whilst there are luxury Porthmadog Bed, Breakfast accommodations too. Llandudno Bed, Breakfast: Wales Guest Houses
Llandudno Bed and Breakfast accommodation, as well as that elsewhere in Wales, usually incorporates guest houses, farmhouses and inns and the emphasis in B&B guesthouses is quality and guest care. The difference between guest houses and hotels that provide a bed and breakfast service is connected with additional services provided by the hotel. In Guest Houses the emphasis is on personal and individual service for guests. The size will be smaller, and prices will always represent good value. Rather than lots of facilities and a more standardised service, you'll get friendly, often family run accommodation with the owners usually on hand to offer extra information and advice on the local area.
There's a superb choice of B&Bs in Wales, often at an excellent budget price per person, based on two people sharing. Some of the best of Wales' B&B guest houses are farmhouse B&Bs, prevalent in Wales across Carmarthenshire, North Wales, Snowdonia, the Brecon Beacons and Mid Wales. These are often the friendliest type of Wales B&Bs. Abergavenny Bed, Breakfast accommodation is also highly recommended.
The advantages of Bed & Breakfast accommodation is in the name, fully inclusive breakfast to set you up for your day of sightseeing, seaside fun or whatever activity might be on your agenda. Most guest houses and hotels offer a B&B service, with discounts for singles and often discounts for longer stays of 3 nights or more. Watch out for special themed B&B Wales breaks such as stag and hen weekend breaks or surfing breaks on the Cardigan Coast or Pembrokeshire coast. Many B&Bs offer large family rooms and good facilities and amenities for children, especially in the popular Wales seaside resorts for example in Colwyn Bay, Prestatyn and Rhyl, or how about walking B&B break in Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons, or a coastal walking break around the Pembrokeshire or Glamorgan Heritage Coast.
Worth checking out when considering Bed & Breakfast accommodation are the following: What about singles - is there a supplement for single occupancy? Single rooms are a little on the short supply in Wales B&Bs, so you'll often have to fork out a supplement for a double room. Advise your host of arrival time - if you're running late let them know as they may re-let the room. Departure times are usually straight after breakfast (around 10am). Cancellations usually result in loss of deposits. Availability of evening meals varies - ask and if not, find out where local restaurants and pubs are located. Usually Wales B&Bs are conveniently located near a fine choice of pubs and restaurants, for example the selection of Swansea B&Bs in the Uplands area is served by some award winning restaurants - so you'll be wanting to eat out! Also check for provision of en-suite bathroom facilities, smoking policy, are children welcome? Are pets welcome? Are there private parking facilities?
Wales does exceptionally well on pet friendly B&Bs, and with lots of great walking in Wales both in the rural areas of the Cambrian Mountains, Snowdonia and the Brecons to walking the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and Glamorgan Heritage Coast, it's the perfect choice of holiday for both you and your pet!
Bed and Breakfast Tenby: Wales Guest Houses – Restaurants with Rooms
Guest Houses in Wales are often converted houses (particularly in the case of prevalent Farmhouse guesthouses). Expect quality services in Wales Guest Houses and Bed and Breakfast including full central heating, tea and coffee making facilities, TV, and either wash basin with separate shared bathroom (these are often at a cheaper rate than en-suite) or ensuite shower/bathroom. Double rooms often have twin beds, ideal for sharing friends. If you specifically want a double bed in your B&B room it's well worth checking/asking as twin beds are common.
Cooked Full Welsh Breakfast comes as standard, with a good choice usually of lighter options. Cooked to order and fresh, you can have your eggs like you want them, and Vegetarian cooked breakfasts are available in most. Personal service like this is one of the key benefits of B&B accommodation, as opposed to buffet breakfast style larger hotels.
Restaurants with rooms (B&B style) are becoming increasingly prevalent in Wales. It's a great idea to really enjoy the food, with your stylish luxury room just a hop and a skip away!
Wales Bed and Breakfast Choice, Booking & Pricing
Whether staying at Carmarthen Bed and Breakfast establishments or otherwise, booking in advance is recommended, especially if you're planning to come to Wales during the peak season periods of mid-May to mid-September and around Easter and Christmas. Book ahead and you'll be fine. Note deposits may be required, and or credit card details taken to reserve the booking. Some B&Bs only accept 2-3 night bookings, or a minimum of 2 night bookings at weekends and peak periods. Many will just do a one night. Often Bed and Breakfast accommodation is located in the owner's home, with several bedrooms available. Check your intended date of Wales travel and location doesn't collide with a key festival, surfing competition or music event - you could end up disappointed if you leave it to the last minute. Watch big rugy sporting events or other sporting events at the Millennium Stadium in Central Cardiff too - accommodation can be scarce during key events here!
Wales offers a choice of Farmhouse B&B guesthouses. Stay in the heart of the Welsh Countryside in usually family run, friendly working Wales farmhouses, great for the kids as farmhouse B&B usually have acres of rural surrounds to romp in and a chance to meet some of the farm animals! Many Wales Hotels, particularly the small Wales hotels offer B&B services with a guesthouse feel. Find these particularly in holiday hotspots like Aberystwyth, Tenby and Llandudno. Take a B&B Wales Golf break in Pembrokeshire or Swansea Bay (both Wales Golf hotspot areas) why not, or sample some of the superb luxury leisure facilities including swimming pools and spas in some of Wales' hotel B&Bs in Wales Spa hotspots such as Llandudno, Anglesey and the luxurious Wye Valley. Brecon Beacons B&B is another popular choice.
Pricing for B&B accommodation is usually 'PER PERSON', based on two people sharing a twin or double room per night. Cheaper rates, a couple of pounds cheaper, are often available if you stay for two or three nights. Be aware of seasonal variations in pricing. Obvious peak seasons are summer, school holidays, Easter breaks, and Christmas festive season. B and B accommodation is inclusive of bed & breakfast only. Evening meals are often an option by arrangement. It's your choice whether to eat in or out. Short stay options suited to the customer, either one night stays or weekend breaks. A cheaper price as compared to a package which also includes evening meal. Usually a choice of breakfast options, including Full Cooked breakfast which usually consists of bacon, egg, sausages, fried tomato and bread, tea or coffee, cereals and fruit juices. Vegetarian options are usually available (but check when booking if you definitely want a vegetarian cooked breakfast).
Wales Tourist Board B&B Guest House Star Grading Scheme
The holiday accommodation grading system by the Welsh Tourist Board (WTB) is nice and simple. Stars all the way, with all types of Wales accommodation including Wales Hotels and B&B guesthouses, and all Wales self catering accommodation being graded in Starts.
The Star Grades run from one to five stars and denote the following:
One Star - Fair to good quality, Two Stars - Good, Three Stars - Very good, Four Stars - Excellent and finally Five Stars deonoting Exceptional. Alongside this, orchestrated by the Welsh Tourist Board, is the Welcome Host grading scheme - an indication of customer care and hospitality standards. There are three awards available under this scheme - WH gold meaning that at least 90 percent of staff are participants, WH silver, 75 percent of staff and WH bronze where at lest 50 percent of staff are participants.
That's not quite all, there's also the 'Award winners', applicable only to guest houses and farmhouses. An Award Winner is a guest house or farmhouse owner who has undertaken a training course in guest house management. Of course is B&Bs aren't your thing, you could always check out the vast selection of Wales hotels.
