Milford Haven MarinaNot far to the south of Haverfordwest, you're in the largest estuary in Wales here at Milford Haven. A bustling port is still here, but the mainstay these days for these sheltered, tidal waters is it's popularity for watersports. It's all here, particularly windsurfing (the estuary is perfect for beginners who want to learn to windsurf), sailing and yacht clubs, waterskiing, powerboating, diving, canoeing, angling and rowing.

Believe it or not, Milford Haven is actually the largest town in Pembrokeshire. In the 18th century it was renowned as a whaling port and centre. Milford Docks are still a central focus for the town with links still to the fishing trade.
In Milford Haven itself the town museum is well worth a visit, particularly for exploring the history of whaling in the area. You can't miss the museum building, it's the oldest in Milford Haven dating from 1797 and designed by Swansea architect Jernigan for whale oil storage. The whale oil was big business then and much of it was transported to London by ship. The museum focuses very much on Milford Haven's industrial history, particularly around the fishing industry and oil. Quaker whaling from the 1790s is given due attention. The number of photographs held here make this museum a fascinating social history journey of the area taking you right upto the modern day and Milford Haven Port's oil refineries.
Of most interest to visitors to the area though is the superb opportunity for various watersports on the estuary. Milford Haven has one of the biggest natural harbours in Europe - it's 13 miles from end to end with calm sheltered waters perfect for windsurfing and waterskiing.
