Preseli Hills Guide, North Pembrokeshire

Ever wondered where the bluestones of Stonehenge originate from? The Preseli Hills is where - the blue coloured stones dotting the landscape of Preseli gives it a mythical charm and character. Indeed this is the place of legends and fairytales. It's still a mystery how the Preseli bluestones got all the way to Stonehenge - either the ice age or man moving them?

The huge number of Neolithic burial sites, Bronze Age cairns, stone circles and standing stones, as well as Iron Age forts in Preseli are testament that prehistoric man was here in abundance!

Two particularly popular sites in the Preseli hills include Carn Ingli, otherwise known as the Mount of Angels and the Gwaun Valley. Discover ancient bluebell woods in the Gwaun Valley and the distinctive blue stones at Carn Ingli. The Preseli Hills are nicknamed 'Blue Stone Country' and offer superb gentle walking over gentle rambling hill country.
