Tenby has three beaches - North Beach, South Beach and Castle Beach. Tenby's South Beach is a favourite with surfers and windsurfers. All three beaches are great for families, with numerous watersports available including as well as surfing, canoeing and swimming.

Another bonus on the Tenby holiday front is little offshore Island Caldey. (Note also ultra mini island St Catherines just offshore from Tenby Castle). Boat trips run every 15 munites from Tenby's Castle Beach and Harbour beach areas from 9.30am to 5pm from Monday to Friday. They run on Saturdays too from mid May to mid September.

Best Beaches Tenby Pembrokeshire

Tenby South Beach, Tenby Castle Beach and Tenby North Beach are all Blue Flag beaches giving them an extra edge! All are golden sandy beaches, and you'll find sand dunes at Tenby South Beach, as well as 2 km of beautiful golden sands plus the best views of offshore Caldey Island. Tenby South Beach is the least commercial of the 3 Tenby beaches, but still has equipment hire facilities for watersports, full lifeguards present from 10am to 6pm daily in the Summer, plus toilets/disabled access toilets, adjacent car park, telephones and some shops.

Castle Beach sits in a cove between Castle Hill (the focal point of Tenby) and East Cliff. Little St Catherine's island adjacent to Castle beach is accessible at low tide but take care not to get stranded when the tide comes in! Closest to Tenby town centre, Castle Beach is a favourite with families with cafe, deck chair hire, toilets and lifegard all included. Boat trips across to Caldey Island run from Castle beach at low tide.

Tenby North Beach is an absolutely stunning golden sandy Blue Flag Beach, with a few rock pools and recognisable Goskar Rock. Tenby Promenade runs alongside. North Beach is definitely the most crowded in summer. Facilities include a beach shop, cafe, toilets, watersports equipment hire outlets, Dogs are not welcome on Blue Flag beaches, but there's plenty of other walking opportunities both on more remote beaches and inland trails. Full lifeguard service daily in the summer.

Finally on the Tenby Beach front, little Harbour Beach is a pretty, sheltered beach close to the town centre. It's the home of Tenby Sailing Club. Boat trips to Caldey Island run from Harbour beach at high tide.

Caldey Island, Tenby Coast Boat Trips

Caldey Island has long been frequented by monks, and at present it's a Cistercian order. They keep themselves busy making chocolate, shortbread, clotted cream and ice cream, perfume and other bits and bobs for the tourists. The boat trip itself is pure pleasure - watch out for the seabirds and grey seals!

Once on the island there's lots to do including twice daily guided walks round the island, exploring the old priory, admiring the views from the lighthouse as far as Lundy Island or taking it easy on Priory Bay's sandy beach. There's a Tea Gardens on the island, and all is delightfully peaceful. Head to the Post Office and Museum to find out more on the history of Caldey Island through the years.
